Lightweight mirror systems for spacecraft-an overview of materials and manufacturing needs

The purpose of this paper is to provide an introductory overview of large space mirrors, conventional mirror materials, and manufacturing methods, and suggest possible materials, processes, and manufacturing research and development approaches to enable the large lightweight mirrors required for future space systems.
