MDSOGI-FLL Control for SyRG-PMBLDCG-BES-PV Based Microgrid

This paper presents a MDSOGI-FLL (Modified Damped Second Order Generalized Integrator Frequency Locked Loop) control technique for a standalone microgrid. The implemented control algorithm has special features of noise attenuation and in addition DC offset removal. The proposed control technique also extracts the fundamental component of load current with improved power quality for the proposed framework. This proposed framework is coordinated operation of interconnected pico-hydro turbine driven synchronous reluctance generator (SyRG), solar photovoltaic (PV) array and permanent magnet blushless DC generator (PMBLDCG) based wind energy conversion (WEC) system with a bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDC). Where, the pico-hydro turbine driven SyRG is implemented because of its advantage of being economical and reliable than other brushless generators. In addition, PMBLDCG based WECS is an economical solution for WEC as it only requires a diode bridge rectifier instead of an additional two level converter. For maximizing the intermittent energy generation of both solar and wind generators, a DC-DC boost converter with a maximum power point tracking function is implemented. The lead-acid battery banks with bidirectional DC-DC converter, act as energy buffer and also provide active power to the system under renewable sources intermittency. A prototype of proposed system is developed and the effectiveness of the proposed MDSOGI-FLL is validated by experiments under different conditions of variation in solar PV intensity and unbalance in load.
