A Panoramic Video Transmission System Design Based on LTE Network

Panoramic video transmission is the key part of practical remote virtual reality(VR) system. In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation of the transmission system firstly. Then we analyze the transmission capacity of the system and the panoramic video quality. Since the data amount of panoramic video is much larger than normal video, it is usually transmitted over wired networks now. However, it is not convenient to deploy a wired network in many scenarios. In order to meet the needs of watching panoramic video in these scenarios, we designed and implemented a panoramic video transmission system based on LTE network and software defined radio (SDR). The system consists of three modules: the video capture module is responsible for collecting scene information and generating panoramic video; the wireless transmission module uses SDR to build a complete LTE communication system to transmit video data; the display module is responsible for decoding the data stream to restore panoramic video. Evaluation results proved that a panoramic video transmission system based on dedicated LTE network could meet the viewers' needs, and was easy to deploy.
