Algorithms and Control Structures for Photovoltaic Modules Installed on Large Transportation Vehicles

Can the sun radiation replace internal combustion fuels? If we take into account recent technology evolutions, the answer is certainly yes-at least in some applications. Photovoltaic modules have become a lot cheaper lately and this makes them extremely attractive for the transportation market. Integrating photovoltaics into transportation vehicles contributes to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, as well as reduced costs. The main purpose of this paper consist in proposing a viable way of integrating photovoltaics into truck trailers, with respect to efficiency, cost reduction and optimization of the hole process. We propose a series of algorithms and control structures for the PV micro-grids, which can cope better with specific disturbances and offer better predictability. The PV grid is divided into subgroups of optimal dimensions chosen after applying certain strategies and an optimization algorithm.
