Reliability based PMU placement in a power system

PMUs are widely used to monitored the grid quantities over few decades all over the world. Grid information in the form of voltage magnitude, voltage angle, currents and frequency are collected by PMUs and send to control center for data record and its analysis. Many network components such as CTs, PTs, PMUs, PDCs, LAN, WAN, CPU etc plays an important role in database applications. Hence consideration of reliability of such components at planning stage needs to be acknowledge. This facilitate the scope of further research in the developing area of optimal PMU placement in power system. In this paper, author present PMUs placement model incorporating the reliability of concerned network components and derived probability of network observability coverage in a power system. Proposed model is verified on IEEE 14 bus and IEEE 30 bus test system.
