Temperature effect on Electronic, Magnetic and Optical properties of V2O5 thin films: Experimental and Theoretical study

In this work we aim to study the effect of temperature substrate on structural, optical and magnetic properties of V
₂
O
₅
thin films by experimental and theoretical methods. The vanadium pentoxide V
₂
O
₅
thin films have been prepared by Reactive Chemical Spraying technology in Liquid Phase (RCSLP) on preheated substrate at (350, 400, 450 and 500 °C).The X-ray diffraction results confirms that all layers are polycrystalline, and the preferred orientation of V
₂
O
₅
is plane (001) at an angle 2θ = 20.07° which confirms the orthorhombic structure. The optical transmission spectrum shows that the transmission of V
₂
O
₅
films varies between 50 % and 61 % in the visible. The electrical study shows that the resistivity of thin films deposited at a substrate temperature of 350 °C is greater than 7.4 Ω.cm but for those deposited at 500 °C is less than 0.6 Ω.cm. The band structure calculations have been performed using density functional theory (DFT) implemented in Quantum Espresso. We have investigated the electronic density distribution of the valence states, The results fits the experimental data very well and indicate that for high substrate temperature 500 °C, V
₂
O
₅
turn into a semiconductor n-type with a ferromagnetic properties.
