Techno-economic and Environmental Strategy for Optimal Planning of Dispatchable and Non-Dispatchable DG units in Distribution Systems

As the decentralized mode of electricity generation is growing at a fast pace, estimation of suitable locations for DG placement and their optimal sizing plays a very crucial role in enhancing technical as well as economic performance of the system. A multi-objective problem comprising of economic index, environment impact reduction index and technical indices i.e. real power loss, voltage deviation and maximum capacity of branch current has been formulated in this paper. It provides a techno-economic and environmental approach for optimally placing and sizing the renewable DG sets which are further classified as dispatchable (wind and solar) and non-dispatchable (biomass) in 51-bus distribution system (radial). AHP i.e. Analytic Hierarchy Process has been employed for appropriately deciding the weighing factors for various indices. The deduced multi-objective problem function (F) has been minimized by using Particle Swarm Optimization i.e. PSO approach. For validating the AHP approach, four cases have been developed by assigning priorities to various indices. The corresponding results obtained are shown to briefly illustrate the technical, economic and environmental aspects. This paper also compares the obtained results with those of other multi-objective problems and was found more promising.
