Enhancement of Image using Maximum Entropy Bi-Histogram Equalization

Mean brightness conservation and enhancement of contrast are two important parameters of image enhancement. A high contrast image is good in subjective quality assessment. Entropy of an image represents the image contrast. Contrast can be well enhanced by increasing entropy. Entropy can be maximized by making the image histogram as flat as possible. In this letter, a method is proposed to select the gray level to obtain maximum entropy, which leads to flattening of the image histogram. After rigorous experimentation on standard data-set, it is observed that the entropy is highest in the proposed technique as compared to state-of-art histogram based image enhancement methods.
