Model Predictive Control Using Globe Exponential Reaching Law Sliding Mode Design Method for Induction Motor Drives

Model predictive control (MPC) is emerging as a powerful control scheme for high performance control of induction motor (IM) drives due to its fast torque response. However, in conventional MPC design, the torque reference in the cost function is generated by the proportional-integral speed controller, thus the torque reference's generation rate is not fast and its accuracy is low especially when the load torque is given suddenly and the motor parameters are varying. This paper investigates a globe exponential reaching law sliding mode control (GERL_SMC)-based MPC approach for IM drives to improve the control system performance. By using the globe exponential reaching law, the well-known chattering problem for SMC is reduced, and the disturbance rejection ability and robustness for MPC drives has been enhanced. The simulation results verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
