A Novel Design for Millimeter Wave Microstrip Antenna with Bandwidth Enhancement

In this paper, a novel microstrip antenna with two rectangular slots is proposed to enhance the impedance bandwidth. A new resonant frequency is introduced near the center frequency through loading two rectangular slots to expand bandwidth. Moreover, the patch parameters which affect the bandwidth are optimized based on imperialist competition algorithm (ICA). It is illustrated from simulation results that the bandwidth of proposed antenna is finally expanded to 2.26GHz (27.48GHz to 29.74GHz), and is 1.46GHz wider compared with the original antenna. Meanwhile, the proposed antenna keeps a stable gain varied from 7.1 to 7.65dBi over the operating band.
