Automatic Power Control of a Wind-Hydro-Grid based Interconnected System for Rural Electrification

This paper deals with active and reactive power control of a wind, hydro and grid based interconnected system for rural electrification. A fixed feed of power supply is taken from the grid and the rest of the consumer load is supplied by the renewable energy sources in order to provide continuous and reliable power supply to a cluster of villages. Dynamic modeling of squirrel case induction generator (SCIG) based wind energy conversion system (WECS) and static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) for reactive power compensation has also been carried out in the study. Comparative analysis of different types of perturbations given to the proposed system has been conducted in the study. The PI controllers used in the system have been tuned using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm technique.
