New Embodiments of Static Field Micro-Particle Components for Reconfigurable RF Applications

Static Field Micro-Particle Components (SFM-PCs) have been developed and used in different applications such as transmission lines (TL), antennas, and filters. As this technique does not require a biasing circuitry, it is a promising switching methodology for future radio frequency (RF) systems. In this paper, we propose two new techniques, Asymmetric Copper and Double Switch, to improve the performance of the SFM-PC which allow the use of this particle-based component in high-frequency wireless applications that may not be possible with the traditional structure. Double Switch Asymmetric Copper made of Rogers TMM4 on a host microstrip TL show that its frequency bandwidth for both ON and OFF states can reach up to 7.0 GHz, several times of the previously reported values, indicating the efficacy of the presented new methodologies.
