Application of Fractal Analysis for Acoustic Nondestructive Defect Detection Methods

Fractal time series appear in various areas of science and technology. In the present paper, it was shown that acoustic signals from the blades of a gas turbine engine also have a fractal structure. Moreover, there are meaningful distinctions in fractal characteristics between defect-free objects and ones with defects such as cracks and chips. Thus fractal based approach can find applications in non-destructive defect detection.
