Review on PMU using Recursive DFT Algorithm

In today's date, due to swift increase in the demand of electricity, it is very crucial to maintain the power system network healthy and fault free. However, addition of various power electronic devices in the power system leads to the injection of harmonics. These harmonics are one of the major reasons for the system degradation. It is therefore, important to detect, analyze and monitor these disturbances in the electrical signals. This can be achieved using Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU). Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is the commonly used algorithm for the estimation of phasor in PMU, but due to various drawbacks it can be replaced by Recursive Discrete Fourier Transform (RDFT) Algorithm. Hence, this paper gives mathematical differences between DFT and RDFT algorithms in brief and advantages of RDFT algorithm.
