Analizing Topsis Method for Selecting the Best Wood Type

Wood is the main element that determines the quality of a furniture product or other wooden crafts. Furniture in the beginning is a furniture industry and carving jati wood carving, so that the resulting furniture products further highlight the art aspects (carvings). Lack of knowledge of industrial furniture in this field resulted in difficulties in determining the decision to choose wood to be a good and quality furniture crafts, but to determine whether a wood is feasible or not as a furniture required a systematic and accurate calculation in order to obtain the right decision. The software development of decision support system (DSS) using Technique For Others Reference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method uses wood quality feasibility parameters consisting of 5 criteria, namely the criterion of physical properties of wood, the mechanical properties of wood, the wood grade, the age of wood and the wood-containing substance, and the alternative consists of 4 namely: jati wood, trembesi wood, mahogany wood and acacia wood. After knowing the parameters, the next step is to analyze the problem and test using Microsoft Excel. The result of this research is to get decision based on objective data to determine the best wood decision to be used as material for handicraft furniture.
