Preliminary Study of a New Octane Modular Stator Field Excited Flux Switching Motor for High Speed Applications

This paper has introduced a new 8-slots Octane Modular Stator (OMS) Field Exited Switched Flux (FESF) motor for high speed applications. OMS design has increased slot area and accommodated more number of turns which has improved the performance in term of low average current. In this work non-overlapped and overlapped windings for 8-slots OMS are used and, also salient rotor with 4, 6 and 10 poles have been studied. The performance of 8S-4P, 8S-6P and 8S-10P is evaluated via 2D Finite Element Method (FEM). The simulation results for flux-linkage, cogging torque, back-emf, average torque, instantaneous torque and total harmonic distortion (THD) of the three type motors are compared.
