Optimal Household Appliances Scheduling Considering Time Based Pricing Scheme

This paper presents a technique for home energy management system (HEMS) to determine the demand response scheduling of thermostatically controlled household appliances under time-of-use pricing and real-time pricing based demand response strategies. The problem is formulation using thermostatically controllable appliances (water heaters and air conditioners) and inflexible household load. For the scheduling of appliances a comparison between the results of energy scheduling of appliances based on day ahead real-time pricing tariff and time-of-use tariff is done. Finally, mixed integer linear programming is used to formulate the problem and commercial solver CPLEX is used to solve it. The effectiveness of the model has been verified by simulations.
