Study of Axial and Radial Phase Plasma Dynamics as a Function of the Variation of Gas Using Lee Model Code

A research has been conducted on the dense plasma focus device (DPF) PF-1000 by using Lee Model Code to study the effect of the variation of filing gas (H, He, Ar, Kr, Xe) on the plasma sheath velocity. To conduct this study the code firstly is configured with inserting bank, tube and operational parameters of the device. Then model parameters are varied to match the computed current profile with the measured current profile. After satisfactory matching, the filling gas is changed to study the nature of plasma sheath velocities in different phases. In each case the gas pressure is fixed at 3.5 Torr. It is obtained that these velocities decrease with increasing atomic number of the gas. These velocities are one of the factors that dictate the final plasma focusing action hence, the radiation output. The study might lead to choose filling gas for a specific performance of DPF device as well as to design a new device of choice.
