Multilayered Wideband SIW Antenna Incorporated with Slot and DGS

In this paper, the development of a multilayered substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna which has wideband characteristic response is presented. The wideband characteristic response is attempted by incorporating a cross slot upon the radiator of SIW antenna and a rectangular split ring slot combined with an X-shape slot of defected ground structure (DGS) at the groundplane. The proposed SIW antenna is implemented using multilayer FR4 epoxy dielectric substrates and fed by a proximity coupling technique connected through a 50Ω SMA connector. From measurement result shows that the fractional bandwidth of 42.3% could be achieved by the proposed SIW antenna in which the -10dB bandwidth response is ranged from the frequency of 1.725GHz to 2.625GHz.
