Synthesis of 4D Linear Antenna Arrays Using an Iterative Convex Optimization Algorithm

An iterative convex optimization algorithm is proposed for efficient pattern synthesis in 4D linear antenna arrays. Specifically, a 4D linear antenna array is separated into two dependent `conventional arrays' with identical array structure, whose far-field patterns correspond to the patterns at the center frequency and the sidebands, respectively. Convex optimization is firstly used to synthesize a pencil beam at the center frequency, and iterative convex optimization algorithm is then applied to suppress the sideband radiation. Due to that the iterative idea of computational mathematics is adopted, the solution tends to be globally optimal. Numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
