Two Lossy Multi-period Optimal Power Flow Formulations with Renewable Energy and Storage

By considering transmission losses, power system operators can obtain more realistic economic dispatching. This paper proposes a multi-period DC optimal power flow (DC-OPF) with losses formulation for minimizing power system operation costs. The classic DC power flow formulation and the power transfer distribution factors (PTDF) formulation are used to formulate the transmission network, and losses are included by using a piecewise linear approximation approach. The formulations are validated and compared on IEEE 14-bus and 57-bus systems.
