Broadband and Wide Beam Magneto-Electric Antenna and Its Application in Scanning Array

A broadband and wide beam magneto-electric antenna array is studied. First, a single antenna element working in S band is designed and fabricated. The Half Power Beamwidth (HPBW) is broadened by tilting and bending the dipoles, and the consistency of the radiation pattern is improved by placing 6 parasitic patches on the ground plane. Measured results demonstrate that the HPBWs in both E-plane and H-plane are larger than 120° from 2.4GHz to 4GHz. Then a 5×5 array working in X band is simulated, it can scan to 45° in both φ = 0

planes and the gain decrease is less than 3dB, the ME antenna array has good scanning characteristics.
