Numerical Analysis on the AC Loss of Air-core Inductive SFCL with Co-winding and Separated Winding Structure during Normal Operation

The superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is one of the most promising applications for the 2G high temperature superconductor (HTS). Among all the SFCLs, the inductive SFCL (iSFCL) has simple structure like a transform with short-circuited secondary winding, which is easy to manufacture and insulate. Also, it has good capability to limit fault current by its resistance and reactance. While the AC loss of iSFCL during normal operation is also an important issue. In this paper, the AC loss of two kinds of iSFCL units with different winding structures, co-winding and separated winding, is numerically analyzed using H-formulation. The current density and the magnetic field are calculated, which shows totally different distributions.
