Electrical-Thermal Characterizations of SIW with Numerical SOC Technique

In this paper, the electrical-thermal transmission characteristics of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is investigated by using the short-open calibration (SOC) technique. By calibrating out the two error boxes in the electrical thermal co-simulation, the temperature-dependent core section can be de-embedded based on the cascaded network theorem. Subsequently, the complex propagation constant of SIW under different temperatures can be extracted. Finally, the numerical examples show that the extracted parameters have expected frequency shift with the varied ambient temperatures, which are due to nonuniform distribution of the changed dielectric constants.
