Comparative Characteristics Analysis of Thermal and Electro-Chemical Behavior of Lithium Ion Battery Using Finite Element Method

In this paper, we have studied about Li ion battery for different operating conditions using finite element method. A one-dimensional cell model is used to model the battery cell chemistry and a two-dimensional axis symmetric model to model the temperature in the battery. In first part of our study a series of analytical method is applied to describe the different electro-chemical properties like potential, current density and capacity of the electrode with temperature distribution along its surface on cylindrical type li-ion battery. The results of our simulation reveal where maximum temperature of the main body of Li-ion battery will be developed and where the maximum ohmic heat will be developed. The results are successfully verified with a published literature. We have also developed the same electro-chemical and thermal analysis with three-dimensional geometry. A three-dimensional analytical solution is developed to analysis the temperature profiles with respect to time and co-ordinate at specific operating condition. Same analysis has also been done by using different material as anode and cathode for both two and three-dimensional model.
