Modified ultra wideband hybrid monopole dielectric resonator antenna

A ultra wideband hybrid monopole dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is proposed in this paper. A half ring shaped dielectric resonator (DR) is selected as radiator, which excited by a graded spherical monopole element. The monopole excites the DR as the feeding mechanism and also acts as an effective radiator itself. By loading the monopole element in the vertical plane, the high-order modes are excited in the DR. The results illustrate that the proposed DRA has a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 77 % from 5.3 GHz to 11.9GHz.
