Broadband circularly polarized antenna with crossed dipoles and its array for satellite communications

A broadband circularly polarized antenna element and a 4×4 array is proposed in this paper. The antenna element is composed of a pair of crossed bow-tie dipoles and a circular parasitic patch above them. Simulated results show that in the operating band from 1.4 GHz to 2.45 GHz, the array exhibits an LHCP gain from 17.1 dB to 20.8 dB, and a HPBW from 15.9° to 25.2°. The proposed array has potential applications in satellite communications systems.
