Low-Complexity Universal-Filtered Multi-Carrier for Beyond 5G Wireless Systems

In this paper, we introduce a computationally efficient multi-carrier waveform to be used for future generations of wireless communication systems. In the proposed technique, we first divide the resource blocks (RB) into two groups, namely odd and even. The filtering operation will then be applied only to these two groups in contrast to the standard UFMC system where a filtering operation is applied to each individual RB. This reduces the number of inverse Fourier transforms and filtering convolutions, resulting in a much lower complexity which is crucial especially with a large number of subcarriers. The results indicate that the proposed scheme outperforms the OFDM system while retaining the same level of performance as the standard UFMC system.
