Android based personal travelling assistant using turning algorithm

In this paper, a novel tactile interface for disturbance-free easy navigation is proposed to support navigation and orientation in a less distracting and obtrusive way using turning algorithm. The sense of touch has been studied as a communication. Our device Android based Personal Travelling Assistant (PTA) wristband relies basically on touch without encountering any disturbances. The vibrotactile feedback is used to guide through a turn-by-turn navigation pattern. This device would help in making people with audio and visually impaired to be more self-sufficient, thus easing their life style. In a study, it has been shown that vibrotactile stimuli can easily be interpreted as pointing directions and proves to be a more effective way in creating an immediate response to the user. Also, tactile information of turn-by- turn navigation can reduce the distraction by decreasing the amount of interaction with the device and can improve map-based navigation in virtual environments and the real-world. Moreover, an additional feature like tracking is incorporated so that acquaintance can keep a track of details of travel. It can be mostly used by parents for the safety of their children along with SOS women safety feature which can be helpful in unsafe situations.
