Comparative analysis of bidirectional converter for V2G application

Present decade has shown the advent of Electric Vehicle; a new generation of vehicles in the automobile industry. One of the important constraint may be the method of charging these vehicles which may appear as a large liability to the grid; but if accomplished suitably, they can prove to be an even larger asset. EV's can be the best reserves to store the energy or deliver it back when needed. Allowing the Electric vehicle to fill the niche, there will be requirement of bidirectional interface which is bridged by the bidirectional converters. This paper will first review the bidirectional DC/Dc converter on the broader part and in the latter part, the comparative analysis of two systems configuration is performed. One of the system incorporates the non-isolated conventional buck-boost converter as its DC/DC converter and the other system incorporates the current-fed, soft-switched galvanically isolated push-pull DC/DC converter. Both the systems are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and the results are presented.
