Security constrained unit commitment in a power system based on battery energy storage with high wind penetration

In deregulated power system, security constrained unit commitment (SCUC) would be executed by Independent system operator (ISO) in day-ahead markets considering Battery energy storage system (BESS). The probable key for enhancing the electric power system operations is BESS with a high point of wind penetration in the electric grid. In energy mix scenario, high penetrations of wind generation have intermittency and volatility issues. To handle these issues, an ISO performs SCUC to ensure system security and reliability. Integration of synergies BESS can balance and mitigate the intermittency issue of wind power generation. In this paper, SCUC model is simulated in GAMS software using mixed integer programming (MIP) with BESS. Results are compared for the BESS combined power system scheduling with and without energy storage is observed for dissimilar stage of wind power generation. In sequence to demonstrate that efficiency of the proposed model, it is implemented on a transmission system of eight buses. Besides various, test cases are investigated and compared, which shows that the proposed optimization model is promising.
