Moore's law — predict the unpredictable

Moore's Law has been the guiding principle for semiconductor industry in the last half century — # of transistors has been doubled up every two years. The economic motivation of Moore's Law has pushed the entire semiconductor industry to embrace many disruptive and unpredicted inventions (and dropped many) to drive to the predicted outcomes by Moore's Law.
