Microstrip compact antenna with reconfigurable characteristic and circular polarization for WLAN application

An antenna with circular polarization and reconfigurable attributes are realized for wireless communications. The processes and procedures executed in the development of the uniquely structured microstrip monopole antenna are detailed throughout this paper, successfully fulfilling the desired reconfigurable and circular polarization qualities convenient for wireless applications at 2.66 GHz. The prototype antenna covers 1800 to 3500 MHz with more than 64% bandwidth, appropriate for handling a wide range of applications such as; GSM 1800, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE and WiMAX with circular polarization. The monopole antenna is designed by small ground antenna, with omni-directional radiation pattern. The design acquires a maximum gain of more than 5 dBi based on the rectangular patch and application of exclusive slots, achieving the objective of increasing the effective length of the antenna and miniaturized it. Ultimately, circular polarization is achieved through the distinctive design of structure, controlling the current distribution on the surface of the antenna. The dimensions of the final antenna are 25∗28mm2 while It is fabricated on a Roger-4003 substrate with er=3.4 and a thickness of 0.8 mm.
