Design of chipless RFID tag based on surface acoustic wave

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technique is a kind of wireless automatic identification technology and has been widely used in our daily life. Compared to other methods, the technique has several advantages, i.e., long reading distance, strong penetrating ability, pollution-resistant ability, high reading efficiency, small size, and large information storage. However, the technique requires a high cost and cannot be accepted by cost-sensitive commodities or applications. To reduce its cost, chipless RFID tag was proposed in recent year and using surface acoustic wave (SAW) to read and store the information is one of such RFID tags. The tag features small size, high flexibility, strong radiation resistance, high consistency and repeatability, as well as high temperature stability. In this paper, we propose a design for the SAW-based RFID tag by using the commercial software COMSOL and simulation results show that it has a good performance.
