A method for process identification and model reduction to design PID controller for thermal power plant

To obtain the PID (Proportional-IntegralDerivative) controller for thermal power plant processes, this paper presents a method for process identification and model reduction by using simple transfer functions. They are the Second (and First) order plus dead time (FOPDT&SOPDT), Third order plus dead time with a zero (TOPDTZ), Integrating plus first order plus dead time (IFOPDT), Integrating plus second order plus dead time with a zero (ISOPDTZ). These models are identified from process step responses using “Cleftover-step” algorithm. Some examples are given for the method illustration.
