A review: FIR filter implementation

Finite Impulse Response Filter (FIR) has a finite period of the impulse response. Higher order of FIR filter is required for meeting precise frequency specification in several digital signal processing applications. But the number of additions and multiplications increase linearly with filter length leading to computational complexity. So in order meet above specifications, various design technique for FIR filter implementation are discussed in this paper. Some of these methods include Common Sub-expression Sharing algorithm which performs sub-expression sharing across all multiplications which reduce number of arithmetic operations to calculate inner products. On the other hand, shared LUT design uses LUT to store the pre-computed result to reduce computational complexity. The main aim of this work is to briefly discuss various design technique for ease in future development.
