A low-profile metamaterial magneto-electric dipole antenna with band-notch characteristics for 5-G MIMO base-stations

A low profile magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna with wide H-plane and band-notch features is proposed for the fifth generation of mobile communication (5G) Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO) applications. The radiated electric dipoles are designed with two kinds of separated arc-shaped planes at different altitudes to provide the dual-band and wide H-plane characteristics. By employing the E-shaped metamaterials to set in the center of the magnetic dipole, the volume of the antenna can be reduced to approximately 46%. In addition, two U-shaped notches together with a rectangular notch are introduced to provide the band-notch feature to 2.4 GHz Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN).
