Calculation and verification of inner hydraulic strength of basin-type insulator

Basin-type insulators are major insulating component and the conductive supporting structure of GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear) and GIL(Gas-insulated Metal-enclosed Transmission Line), and have significant influence on the performance and reliability of the equipment. Many studies focused on the mechanical strength and environmental adaptability since the application of basin-type insulator. The simulation of the hydraulic strength of basin-type insulator usually considers the sample itself and the contact part of mounting surface of the sample and the flange only, without considering the influence of the sealing rings and flange, resulting in obvious deviation from the experimental results. In this paper, the boundary conditions of the simulation, including the elastic deformation of the sealing ring, the flange and other factors are taken into account. The results show that the value of stress of basin-type insulator form the simulation and the hydraulic test are close, which indicating the validity of the calculation method.
