Internet of things based approach for open precision farming

The main aim is to develop a working prototype of Internet of Things based approach on open precision farming, where it increases the efficiency in farming by reducing the wastage of water and monitoring the fertility of soil. In order to connect with the Internet of Things we use a Wi-Fi module called ESP8266. ESP8266 is a cost efficient wifi chip which contains transmission control protocol/internet protocol and microcontroller unit. This module is programmed with an arduino and configured in such a way that it connects to the available LAN. Using this wifi module we can monitor the sensors, LEDs and many other hardware devices. In order to monitor the temperature and humidity of soil DHT11 sensor can be used. These sensors are connected to the wifi module and programmed to send the data to one of the cloud platform called ThingSpeak where the temperature and humidity of the sensor can be monitored in real time. ThingSpeak is an open source Internet of Things application protocol interfaced to collect all the data from the sensors using internet through HTTP protocol. ThingSpeak monitors the sensor data periodically and it can send a notification through Twitter to notify the user about the status of the field.
