OLTC-DVR hybrid for voltage regulation and averting reverse power flow in the micro-grid with intermittent renewable energy sources

The penetration of intermittent Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the micro-grid is marked by reversal of power and swell in voltage upon sudden insertion of power under light and dip in voltage while exit of RES under heavy load conditions. Proposed configuration of On Load Tap Changing (OLTC) transformer-Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) hybrid acts on the regulation of voltage by combining control over power flow from source side and injection of voltage at leading/lagging power factor under heavy loading condition or exit of RES and high loading or insertion of RES respectively. This paper presents a simple and fast control strategy for control of OLTC-DVR hybrid system to regulate the network voltage and averting the reverse power flow in weak radial micro-grid under influence of intermittent RES with perturbing loads. Simulated results under MATLAB/SIMULINK environment are presented under aforesaid conditions to validate the effectiveness of control scheme.
