Design of 60 GHz microstrip antenna array composed through annular feeding line

Some millimeter wavebands, such as 60 GHz, would probably be selected as the main operating frequencies of the next 5th generation wireless/mobile communication systems, for their obvious advantages of wider available transmission bandwidth and higher achievable transmission rate. In this paper, a novel structural design of microstrip antenna array working at the 60 GHz frequency band has been proposed. This new kind of the whole microstrip antenna array is formed by two “Y” shaped branches, which are connected through an outside annular feeding line. In each “Y” shaped branch, there are two lines of three rectangular patches linearly composed together. The radius of annular feeding line has been optimized based on half-wavelength impedance repetitiveness. The result has been shown that the presented new microstrip antenna array can achieve the high gain value of nearly 9.65 dBi at around 60 GHz.
