Application of Unit Template Algorithm for voltage sag mitigation in distribution line using D-STATCOM

This paper discusses the mitigation of voltage sag by injecting reactive current at PCC using a distribution FACTS device known as Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM). The intermittent switching of heavy loads results in voltage sag in distribution line. The critical loads connected to this distribution line are adversely affected by voltage sag. In this paper, Unit Template Algorithm is used for reference current generation, which is a simple method for implementation and control compared to other methods. The line parameters of 415 volt industrial feeder are considered for analysis. The distribution line and DSTATCOM are modeled using MATLAB-SIMULINK software. The effectiveness of unit template algorithm for voltage sag mitigation is proved by comparing results of Simulink model with and without DSTATCOM.
