Computation of audible noise from a 1200 kV UHV power transmission line

Corona discharges can occur on high voltage transmission lines and it can aggravate during foul weather (rain, snow and fog) conditions. It is often perceivable as audible noise (AN), which is of broadband nature in the range of one to several kilohertz. It is also accompanied by low frequency tonal noise at double the supply frequency and its multiples. The tonal component can present a significant health problem because the low frequency noise is perceived more annoying than a broadband signal of the same strength and also it is less subjected to attenuation by nearby building or other structures. The paper mainly deals with the computation of tonal component of audible noise generated from a 1200 kV high voltage transmission line due to corona.
