Biodegradable electrical insulation fluids

Utilities and other users of liquid filled transformers have shown an interest in biodegradable insulating fluids as alternatives to currently available dielectric fluids. This interest is based on the low biodegradability levels of currently available dielectric fluids and the environmental concerns that could result from spills of these fluids. This paper discusses the use of vegetable oils for use in transformers. An acceptable fluid called BIOTEMP is described which has high temperature stability.
