The Mapping Studies

Systematic mapping studies aim at giving an overview of a research field. They are as well ordered as systematic literature reviews (SLRs) but are conducted when the study field isn't mature enough to comprise a set of comparable empirical studies. Their intent is to “map out” the research undertaken rather than answer detailed research questions.⁷
