H/sup /spl infin// control of noise in a 3-D structural acoustic system

The performance of a PDE-based control technology for reducing sound pressure levels in structural acoustic systems is numerically investigated in this paper. In such systems, structural vibrations couple with an adjacent acoustic field to produce unwanted noise. The actuators are taken to be piezoceramic patches bonded to the structure. In response to an input voltage, the patches can be used to attenuate vibration levels in a manner which reduces sound pressure levels in the adjacent acoustic field. The performance of an H/sup /spl infin///minmax compensator is investigated here with numerical simulations presented to demonstrate resulting attenuation levels.
