Information technology strategy for Six Sigma projects in a Thai University

Being one of newest schools in a Thai state university, we face many challenges in terms of limited budget, academic resources, support staff and classroom space when compared to more well-established schools. However, since 2003 these challenges have provided opportunities to produce a competitive and successful strategic plan for our schoolpsilas growth. We have incorporated a concept of virtual organisations and the Six Sigma methodology into the schoolpsilas strategy, mission, and goals which has resulted in many changes in the school. Those changes have been well accepted primarily due to the use of information technology to enable tasks to be completed more effectively. We report on how information technology has been fully utilised in the schoolpsilas strategic planning, in reducing resistance to changes occurring after several projects implementations, and supporting our Six Sigma quality improvement and control projects. Details of the analysis and design of our information system to meet these requirements are also described in the paper.

I. Introduction

We present the information technology-based strategies that the School of Information Technology at Phetchburi Rajabhat University has used since 1983 when this school was founded. We refer to this school by its famous former name, SCAAT (School of Computer and Advanced Technologies). Being information technologists ourselves, applying both disciplines (information technology and business) in our own environment provided a foundation for the successful design, implementation, and deployment of an information system.
