Modeling and analyzing the impact of interdependency between natural gas and electricity infrastructures

With increasing investment in natural gas powered generation technologies, limitations in gas delivery capabilities are becoming increasingly relevant to operational planning for electric power systems. Thus it is essential to model and analyze the impact of the interdependency between natural gas and electricity infrastructures. This paper tries to convey the idea that, through an integrated modeling of the two infrastructures, critical energy infrastructure vulnerabilities can be identified, which provides useful information for future planning of natural gas delivery system and electric power system. The IEEE 118-bus power system and an assumed natural gas delivery system are used to illustrate the impact of interdependency between natural gas and electricity infrastructures.
