Trends in fiber optics applications for automotive industry

The fiber optics transmission systems have been used extensively for realizing communication and intercommunication links within the public telephonic network, but lately the fiber optics has entered the vehicles' field. Let's define a new concept of vehicles cabling, which includes two categories: - classic cabling, destined for large currents (tens of A); - optical cabling, destined for the communication between transducers and the board computer or the vehicle's driver. With regards to the second concept, there are several types of fiber optics network which use smart sensors and actuators.
