Switching Impulse Tests of EHV and UHV Transformers

A switching impulse testing technique is described which basically consists in discharging a capacitor into the low voltage winding of the transformer through an additional inductance, so that the overvoltage is inductively transferred in the high voltage winding in form of a slightly damped oscillation.
